Mumbai: On September 16, India will see the premiere of “Where the Crawdads Sing,” a mystery drama starring “Normal People” actress Daisy Edgar-Jones.
The film, which is based on the same-titled 2018 book by author Delia Owens, will be distributed in India by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the production company announced in a press release on Friday.
The movie, which was directed by Olivia Newman, is set in the middle of the 20th century and centers on Kya (Edgar-Jones), a young person who is left behind by her family and must raise herself on her own in the perilous marshes of North Carolina.
However, when her ex-boyfriend is discovered dead, Kya is thrown into the limelight and is immediately identified by the residents and police as the main suspect in his murder.
The film was made by Hollywood celebrity Reese Witherspoon through her production firm Hello Sunshine.
Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer Jr., and Oscar-nominated actor David Strathairn all appear in “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
Career:
At the age of 17, Edgar-Jones was cast as Olivia Marsden in ITV’s comedy-drama Cold Feet opposite James Nesbitt after appearing in 2016 Outnumbered Christmas Special on BBC One. In the 2018 film Silent Witness and the independent coming-of-age drama Pond Life, both directed by Bill Buckhurst, she played Jessica Thompson. She appeared in The Reluctant Fundamentalist, a play by the National Youth Theatre.
Edgar-Jones played Delia Rawson in the 2019 BBC and HBO television series Gentleman Jack.
For the first two seasons of War of the Worlds, Edgar-Jones costarred with Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern as Emily Gresham. The Hulu and BBC Three series Normal People, a television adaptation of the Sally Rooney novel, was confirmed to have cast Edgar-Jones in the lead role of Marianne alongside Paul Mescal in the part of Connell in May 2019.
The BBC recorded and aired Edgar-Jones’ performance in the Albion revival that took place in February 2020 at the Almeida Theatre. She was listed as one of the 2020 lists of powerful women by British Vogue.
The thriller Fresh, her first project after Normal People, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2022.
She appeared in the 2022 film adaptation of Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing and Dustin Lance Black’s true crime miniseries, Under the Banner of Heaven, based on the same-titled book by Jon Krakauer.
Where The Crawdads Sing, Reese Witherspoon’s sixth production as a producer, went on to become a huge hit at the box office in the United States and Canada. After Minions: The Rise Of Gru and Thor: Love And Thunder, the money maker took a brilliant third place. The mystery-thriller-drama movie has surpassed the $100 million mark worldwide and will be released in India on September 16, 2022.
The English-language version of Where The Crawdads Sing, which received 96% good reviews from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, will be shown in theatres all throughout India by Sony Pictures Entertainment India. The film also includes Oscar candidate David Strathairn, Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer Jr., and Golden Globe winner Daisy Edgar-Jones in the starring role.
Based on Delia Owens’ 2018 book of the same name, Where The Crawdads Sing. It held the #1 spot on The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2019 and 2020 for a total of 32 separate non-consecutive weeks.
